Charming 11-inch early antique German wax-over-papier-mâché Sonneberg Taufling. This wonderful baby has a shoulder head with sweet round face, with a bald head, (some nails still in the scalp and glue indicate that at one time baby had a wig), blue sleeping eyes, pink cheeks, open mouth with 2 square cut upper and lower teeth. Wax finish has some crazing and a few nicks, but no cracks or chunks missing. Taufling body with papier-mâché torso and wood limbs with jointed wrists and ankles is in very good condition with just a couple of splits in the fabric of the arms. There is a voice box in the torso that no longer works. Baby is dressed in antique shift and long slip; gown made from vintage fabric with nice detailing of tucks and wide eyelet lace trim at hem, and vintage cap, but probably not as old as she is. If you like these charming early dolls, this one is priced right for you!
