Very rare and unusual antique French bisque Baby doll incised: 272 Unis France 71 140, documented in Theimer’s SFBJ book on page 101 as a rare model. Baby’s head is perfect with no cracks, chips or repairs, though cheeks are a little splotchy. His eyes sleep and still have their eyelid wax. Baby’s mouth is open. This is a strange looking body for a baby, but without doubt, it’s original. It is papier-mache. There is quite a bit of flaking on the arms, but that is typical of these late French bodies. His shift and diaper appear original. I have added his gown with beautiful fancy work on the front, long cotton slip and lacy bonnet. A cute baby and very rare, only one I’ve ever seen. If infants are your collecting focus – buy this one right now. You won’t soon find another!
