Factory original 9-inch antique German bisque shoulder head doll with closed mouth incised: S H 2/0 950. Her head was made in the porcelain factory of Simon & Halbig. Her bisque has no cracks, chips or repairs that I can see, but her original clothes are sewn on, so I cannot check her shoulder plate. However, there are two factory flaws – a chip on the inside rim of her head, and a small pimple on one cheek. She has a sweet face with full tapered eyebrows, blue sleeping eyes, long painted lashes, pudgy cheeks, and closed mouth. She has her original cloth body with bisque lower arms and tiny finger chip. She wears her original factory folk dress from the town of Volendam in Northern Holland. Her head dress is a black cap with lace cap overlay with the famous “wings.” Because of the right black cap, she never had a wig. Her black wool dress is accented with red braid, and she wears complete underwear, stockings and shoes, necklace too. Since these folk costumes are becoming obsolete, dolls authentically dressed are becoming more historically important. Very attractive doll and a high quality example!
