All original folk-costumed 7 ½-inch German bisque child incised: made in Germany, also some numbers which I can’t decipher. But she is a high quality doll, probably a Kestner or Kley & Hahn. Her bisque is perfect with no cracks, chips or repairs. Her blue glass eyes sleep and have perfect eyelid wax. She has light multistroked eyebrows and delicately painted upper and lower eyelashes. Her brown bobbed mohair wig with bangs is original. Her open mouth has 4 upper teeth. Her original 5-piece composition body is excellent quality and condition, just a crack at one ankle. She has painted white stockings and 2 strap black shoes. She wears her completely original folk costume: black dress with metal buttons and laces (a few small moth holes in back and 1 button missing), scarf with ribbon trim, apron with braid trim, full undies and matching bonnet. Her bonnet has light blue silk trim around the brim, which is deteriorating. There was a handwritten tag on her that said Denmark costume, but I am not sure about that. Everything is in excellent, unplayed with condition, except for a few minor flaws as noted above. As these regional costumes are disappearing from use, these Souvenir dolls are becoming historically more important as a record of what was worn in various areas. What a lovely example of a European child!
